Talavera - Mexican Handpainted Pottery
Talavera began in Mexico in the late 16th Century when potters from the Spanish city of Talavera de la Reina settled in Mexico. Talavera is the process that begins when two types of clay are mixed, strained and left to partially dry, next; they are kneaded by foot and sent to the workshop.
Each piece is individually molded and left to dry for eight to twelve weeks. A first firing heats the clay to 850 C. The items are then decorated, with lead free paints, and glazed to give them a unique shine and texture that no screened item can duplicate. The items are fired again at a higher temperature - 1050 C, to reach their final brilliance and luster. Talavera is a rustic style, and as with all handwork, small imperfections are expected, welcomed and part of their charm.

San Miguel Shoes

San Miguel Shoe is the creation of Santiago Gallardo Muniz, who was inspired by the cobblestone streets and narrow, stone sidewalks of San Miguel to create a shoe that is both comfortable and chic. With it's wide, stretch band designed to stabilize the ankle, the cushioned inner sole and contemporary lug outer sole, the "original" San Miguel Shoe is a remarkable combination of comfort and style - a shoe that can go anywhere, any time. These shoes are incredibly comfortable, without sacrificing fashion, they are known worldwide as the "Cocktail, Combat Sandals". The San Miguel Shoe now comes in many styles and colours.
We watched San Miguel shoes being made during our last visit to San Miguel de Allende and are proud to be able to offer these unique shoes for sale in a variety of styles and sizes. We import them directly from their source in San Miguel de Allende.
